Wheelchairs

Manual wheelchairs

The wheelchair is carried in the aircraft cargo compartment at no extra charge.

Passengers can use manual wheelchairs to get to / from the departure or arrival gates. If the passenger wishes to arrive at the departure gate himself / herself, the wheelchair will be marked as Checked Baggage at check-in and will be loaded onto the aircraft upon boarding.

Passengers using manual wheelchairs may request the wheelchairs be delivered immediately upon landing. All other wheelchairs can be picked up at the airport arrival area (baggage pick-up area).

Battery powered wheelchairs (dry or gel accumulator)

Electric / battery powered wheelchairs are carried as checked baggage.

During check-in, the dry battery must be disconnected, its terminals insulated to prevent accidental short circuiting, and  securely attached to the wheelchair. Gel batteries do not need to be disconnected from the battery if the battery terminals are insulated to prevent accidental short circuits.

Innovative wheelchairs with integrated dry batteries and covered battery terminals do not need to be disconnected if they have:

  • a master switch (with a manufacturer’s label stating that the battery is fully disconnected when the switch is activated) that must be turned off; or
  • a removable control unit which must be completely removed (it is not enough to remove the control unit key only).

GetJet Airlines does not accept other types of wheelchairs in Checked Baggage.
